Regarded Discards
I can’t recall a time when I wasn’t attracted to objects and materials in the wild. It could’ve possibly started with memories of my mom and me being wedged in the back of a Ford Escort with some sort of curbside find. It could have started with my grandpa, early teen memories of home deconstruction activities. Lots of time spent watching him straighten nails.
It’s always been a challenge to pass by a good find on the street/highway/sidewalk. Having space has allowed me to house and store the material finds. Many times an eye-catch item sparks an idea. As if it is telling me what it wants to be.
Recently I have been accepting these signals and rolling with it. Many recent thoughts about wasted materials and a feeling of disregard for the involved labor. The presented sculptures aim to give a nod to the materials and time lost. I hope to give a renewed outlook on those often overlooked.
